‘Recovering’

The word ‘recovering’ is a beautiful word that speaks of reclamation, restoration and making right. It is an upholstery term, which conjures images of making something new on the outside only, but proper upholstery would involve checking the guts of a chair, couch, etc. and ensuring that the frame, springs, foam and fabric are all in good working order. It is also a term that 12-step groups use. I absolutely love the spirituality and approach of 12-step recovery and seek to apply those principles in my own approach to Christian faith.

‘Kingdom’

The word ‘kingdom’ is a historically rooted term. If, like me, you are from a country that does not have a monarchy of any kind, the concept will be more foreign to you. But the word has great use. It is a word that invites me to imagine something I don’t presently experience. To seek to embody the reign of a King.
